Rob van Bavel and Joris Teepe are two international acclaimed jazz musicians who came back home in a “Dutch Connection”.
Rob and Joris know each other since the 80’s and over the years they’ve played in many different projects and line-ups, mostly in the Netherlands. During the corona crisis in 2020 they decided to form a duo and do online live streams from Rob’s house in Roelofarendsveen (a small village near Schiphol Airport). This CD “Dutch Connection” was also recorded in this house by the experienced technician Sander van der Heide.
Rob van Bavel graduated cum laude in 1987 at the Rotterdam Conservatory. He was awarded several prices, such as the 2nd price in the first “Thelonious Monk Jazzpiano Competition” (Washington D.C.) , soloist prices in Germany / Belgium, the Wessel Ilcken prijs (Netherlands) and a Edison (Dutch Grammy). Rob has performed all over Europe, Canada, USA, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, South Korea and Siberia; and played with legends such as Woody Shaw, Randy Brecker, Johnny Griffin, Gary Willis and many others. He is currently teaching at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the Royal Conservatory (The Hague).
Joris Teepe is a Dutch bassist who made an international career after moving to New York in 1992. Since 2014 he also has a residence in Amsterdam and so he is living in both cities. He has performed and recorded with great artists such as Benny Golson, Sonny Fortune, Billy Hart, Harold Maybern, Barry Harris, Frank Lowe, Bobby Watson, Tom Harrell and Randy Brecker. His longest stint was with Rashied Ali (John Coltrane’s last drummer), with whom he recorded 4 CDs and toured the world for 9 years, between 2000 and 2009. Creativity is the trademark of his music. His swinging grooves and unique international experience guarantee an exciting concert for the audience and for himself!
